Description

This position reports to the Director of Remote DBA. You will work remotely; there is no central office, and most people work from their homes. Some travel will be required for internal meetings. Access to a reliable high-speed internet connection is required.

Work in a fast paced environment where we are responsible for companies most critical systems. Customers count on us to keep their MySQL database running and are vital to the success of their business. We are creating a best of class reference architecture and push any learnings back into all of our customers with improved monitoring and new services.

**You can work remotely from anywhere in the Pacific timezones, but you will need to be able to travel to company events, conferences, etc.**

Core skills

• Polite, friendly and professional; this position requires significant customer interaction and team work
• Knowledge of MySQL and InnoDB
• Knowledge of Linux systems administration, including expertise on filesystems, hardware, and networking
• Knowledge of LAMP technologies such as Apache, Memcached, and other popular F/OSS server software
• General programming and scripting abilities
• Proven success working in a distributed environment where e-mail, IRC and Skype are the only interactions with clients, colleagues and managers on a daily basis
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Ability to be on-call rotation for operations issue escalation
• Ability to troubleshoot and correct complex issues
• Suggest innovative ideas to fix ongoing operations issues and improve our services

Desired skills

• MySQL DBA, MySQL Professional Certifications
• Expert in transaction processing systems
• CS degree or equivalent
• Experience with tools from the Percona Toolkit suite
• Expertise running on Cloud Services such as AWS and RDS or hosting providers like Rack Space
• Supplemental MySQL technologies: XtraDB, XtraBackup
• Technologies such as Nginx, Sphinx, HaProxy and other load balancers
• Knowledge of MySQL HA Solutions such as XtraDB cluster, MMM, MHA, Pacemaker/Corosync, PRM
• Programming languages and development experience such as Python, Perl, C/C++, PHP.
• Expierience with sysbench; Nagios, Percona Monitoring Plugins and other monitoring tools
• Experience with Galera / XtraDB Cluster
